About an email saying you won a Lottery
I want to share that there is an email scam going around, 2 of my personal email addresses had this come this week. It says UK National Lottery at the top and looks quite official. Then when you think, “hmmm, well, if I actually have won something like this, I’d hate to not redeem the winning ticket and miss out on that much money”. So, you send a reply giving your information. You get a response saying to send certain information to another person who is in charge of sending the pertinent documents to you to be signed. Then you send that and… you get the 3 options on how to cash in on the winnings. The first is to appear at the lottery board which is, of course, in London, and you are in the U.S. So of course, you look at options 2 or 3 and each states you must pay the cost of them sending the funds to you and looks fairly reasonable. However, the costs must be sent ahead of your receiving the money, obviously right? And the money must be sent to a person who will act as the sender, once he’s gotten your fees, of course. I went to www.snopes.com to check it out, typed UK Lottery in the search box and sure enough… there have been a number of victims of this scam. I wanted to pass this on. Please go to snopes.com and type UK Lottery in the search or any other email you get that you need to verify. its a great site for locating a hoax or scam such as this. Even if you just want to see whether a forward about a missing or ill person is true before passing it on and perpetuating a lie or something that began so long ago it is no longer valid. This site has been something I use to keep from forwarding things that need be stopped and to keep from being taken for a fool. Of course, I knew it sounded too good to be true, so it likely was, but at least with snopes, I can see there have been others.
I hope your Sunday is going along nicely. i just needed a quick break from house and yard work.
